Got a nose for wine and fancy yourself as a budding wine judge? Or maybe you can’t pick your chardonnay from your cabinet, so to speak. In either case, the world of wine awards dinners usually falls to those who make or sell wine, and of course those who own either end of the production phase.
But in celebration of the 29th Sheraton Perth Wine Awards, to be held on Tuesday August 15, these awards for the first time will be opened up to the public, albeit to a limited number.
Regarded as the benchmark for local wine shows, the Sheraton Awards are increasingly recognised as the awards to win in WA.
This year, in addition to the gold and silver medals awarded in 15 classes, there are special awards for the most successful exhibitor from all classes and the chairman’s award for best individual entry in the show.
This public allotment of tickets is designed to encourage a more direct relationship with the wine industry and the wine-loving public.

The next instalment of the eagerly awaited Italian cheese and wine evenings is sneaking up on Maurizio’s Restaurant.
Held quarterly, the events provide a forum for cheese lovers to express their passion in the company of likeminded individuals.
The next event is scheduled for Thursday July 20.
Maurizio’s chefs specifically match gourmet cheese with Italian wines, desserts and winter antipasto.
The people at Maurizio’s have a wealth of cheese knowledge and offer tips of the trade in a long-table format.
