Community services organisation Chorus has merged with disability services Kira, bolstering Chorus’s staff numbers and expanding its geographical reach.
Kira will continue to offer the same support services, while being under the Chorus name.
The move means Chorus has an additional 60 staff and 70 clients.
According to Kira’s 2020 annual report, it reported revenue of $3.9 million, while Chorus’s most recent annual report stated it had $38.1 million in revenue in the 2019 financial year.
Chorus chief executive Dan Minchin said the merger would allow Chorus to grow its impact, bring more organisations under the Chorus umbrella and increase its reach.
“We are looking to grow our impact, we are looking to grow geographically, so this is in the northern suburbs, we are stronger in the southern suburbs,” Mr Minchin told Business News.
“It’s just part of our strategy to have a good across metropolitan Perth as well as Albany and Bunbury.
“We saw lots of similarities in the values, the customer base, the way the Kira customers were supported.”
He said mergers were becoming more common as the sector transitioned to the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
Kira chair Andrew Woodhams said the board believed the merger with Chorus offered opportunities for its staff and clients.
“The Kira board considered a number of options before settling on a merger with Chorus,” he said.
“We were extremely impressed by the Chorus board’s collaborative and professional approach to the merger, and by the organisation’s vision of enabling people to live the life they choose.”
