BGC wins work on $13m radiation oncology unit

The construction arm of BGC Australia will deliver forward works on the state government’s $13.1 million radiation oncology unit in Albany.

The services will be available to about 300 cancer patients within the region, who currently make road trips to Perth or Bunbury for regular radiotherapy.

The forward works package will ensure complex machinery is safely housed to protect patients, visitors and staff from radiation exposure, the state government said.

It will also improve parking and vehicle access at Albany Health Campus.

The works, expected to generate 50 local jobs, are due to complete before the end of the current financial year.

Health Minister Roger Cook said the contract was a vital step in ensuring radiation oncology services were “up and running in a safe and timely manner”.

Services are expected to become available in the second half of 2022.
