Another weighty suite of nickel-copper-cobalt results from Legend Mining’s Mawson prospect in Western Australia’s revered Fraser Range has again eclipsed all previous drill numbers, with combined intercepts from two separate drill holes spanning a length of 53.85 metres and nearly 100 metres, respectively. Included in the new results is an impressive 19.2m interval grading 1.69 per cent nickel, 1.23 per cent copper and 0.09 per cent cobalt from 97.9m.
The 19.2m interval in hole 18 includes a 4.5m high grade zone containing the best grades seen at the Mawson prospect to-date of 3.05 per cent nickel, 2.32 per cent copper and 0.19 per cent cobalt from 103.7m down hole.
A further 34.65m zone in hole 18 returned 0.51 per cent nickel, 0.35 per cent copper and 0.03 per cent cobalt from 130.7m down hole.
Legend’s hole 18 was drilled to test the eastern extension of the massive sulphide mineralisation hit in hole 8, which was previously reported to contain a combined 107.8m of mineralisation in eight separate zones from 91m depth.
The impressive results demonstrate the continuity of mineralisation at Mawson with Legend Managing Director, Mark Wilson saying the assays "add to the robust grades and widths reported…”.
Another new and notable 73.5m intercept was returned from hole 15, grading 0.32 per cent nickel, 0.29 per cent copper and 0.02 per cent cobalt from 87.5m.
Hole 15 was drilled to test the northern extension of the mineralisation hit in hole 11 and the eastern extent of the upper zone in hole 7.
The upper zone in hole 15 appears to correlate well with the eastern extent of the upper zone in Hole 7, which contained just over 70m grading 0.52 per cent nickel, 0.36 per cent copper and 0.03 per cent cobalt from 88.2m down hole.
A lower 24.3m zone in Hole 15 graded 0.22 per cent nickel, 0.26 per cent copper and 0.02 per cent cobalt from 279.0m.
Management said the mineralisation is open to the southwest, northeast and east and the company will now look to analyse all of its new data before planning the next set of drill holes at Mawson.
Mawson is located within Legend’s Rockford project, 120km northeast of IGO’s famed Nova-Bollinger nickel-copper mine and 100km south of the Tropicana gold mine, run by AngloGold Ashanti and IGO.
An air core rig is also on site at Rockford and an RC rig is slated to drill about 3,000 metres across the project, targeting known sulphide mineralisation, geochemical anomalies and geophysical features.
Legend’s foray into the Frazer Range in 2015 came in a deal to acquire 70 per cent of the Rockford project from uber-prospector Mark Creasy.
The Mawson prospect was born in a watershed moment late last year when its discovery diamond hole, drilled to test an electromagnetic conductor, returned nearly 15m grading 1.07 per cent nickel, 0.75 per cent copper and 0.06 per cent cobalt from 114m.
Legend’s stock tripled on the ASX when Mawson was first cemented - and the company now boasts a $340m market cap.
