Southern Cross wins Queensland work

Southern Cross Electrical Engineering has won a $40 million contract for services to Energy Queensland, which operates the electricity network in the northern part of that state.

The work will be focused on maintenance services and asset inspection.

The five-year deal will replace a three-year agreement signed in August 2017, with the new deal covering a wider area and increasing workload by around 25 per cent.

Southern Cross is headquartered in Naval Base but the work will be delivered by its Townsville team.

Managing director Graeme Dunn said the initial contract followed a change in strategy.

“Nearly four years ago we entered into this new sector as part of our diversification strategy, and I am extremely pleased we have proven our service offering through this repeat business,” he said. 

“A great effort from our Townsville delivery team has built a successful, long term relationship with Energy Queensland and we look forward to the continuing support of our employees, subcontractors and suppliers in the successful delivery of these works.”

Shares in Southern Cross were up 3.5 per cent to 45 cents each at the time of writing.
