Legend Mining has kicked off its planned diamond and air core drill campaign at the Rockford Project in the Fraser Range of Western Australia, where drilling late last year hit a near 15-metre long zone grading 1.07% nickel, 0.75% copper and 0.06% cobalt from 114 meters downhole.
A diamond drilling program that consists of six holes, will target a modelled “off-hole” electromagnetic, or “EM” anomaly around 80m down dip to the southwest of the 15m mineralised interval.
The EM anomaly is exhibiting a very high amplitude according to the company and is positioned in a very prospective geological zone.
The 15m discovery intercept is surrounded by a wide, 70m zone of disseminated sulphides, which Legend has previously hinted has all the hallmarks of a “large mineralised system”.
Notably, Legend said that mineralisation in this discovery hole is still open in all directions, which is very exciting for the Perth based ASX listed company that has been plugging away in the Fraser Range for some time now.
An air core rig is also on site at the Mawson prospect now and set to drill about 130 first pass holes that will give Legend a look at just what the weathered cover rocks are composed of and what the geology is doing. The company will look at the results of the drilling along with the EM data to plan follow-up programs in the future.
Legend has outlasted most of its junior exploration peers in the Fraser Range, many of whom flocked to the region after Sirius Resources discovered the fabulous Novo nickel and copper deposit in the region.
The ASX listed company’s tenacity paid off recently with the discovery of the 15m mineralised zone and if it can start to join the dots with more solid hits in this latest campaign, things just might start to get a bit exciting for the Mark Wilson led company.
