Woodside gets nod for Sangomar project

The West African nation of Senegal has authorised its first oil development, the $US4.2 billion Sangomar offshore oil project, operator Woodside Petroleum has announced.

The Sangomar Development concept is a standalone floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) facility with 23 subsea wells and supporting subsea infrastructure.

It is expected to have a production capacity of 100,000 barrels per day, with first oil targeted in early 2023.

Woodside said the FPSO would allow for the integration of potential future development phases, including gas export to shore and future subsea tie-backs.

The government of Senegal also approved a proposed plan for the exploitation of oil at three offshore joint venture projects – Rufisque Offshore, Sangomar Offshore and Sangomar Deep Offshore, Woodside said.

The three offshore projects are joint ventures between Woodside Energy, Cairn Energy PLC, FAR and Petrosen.

Shares in Woodside were down 0.8 per cent to trade at $35.85, as at 12pm AEDT.
