Van Der Wielen, Shackleton join RFDS board

The Royal Flying Doctor Service WA has appointed its former chief executive Tim Shackleton and HBF chief executive John Van Der Wielen to the board.

Mr Shackleton is returning to RFDS WA as a board member after serving as chief executive from 2006 to 2011; he is currently chief executive of Rural Health West.

Mr Shackleton is chairman of Syndacite 82 at The CEO Institute and the WA Pastoral Lands board at the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage, and is a member of the advisory board for the UWA Business School. 

Mr Van Der Wielen has been HBF chief executive for the past two years, while serving as a non-executive director of Kycker, Partners Life, and as a member of the advisory board for the UWA School of Population and Global Health.  

The new board members are replacing Erica Smyth and Ann Ward, who are leaving their positions after serving the maximum nine-year term.

While serving on the board, Ms Smyth was named the Australian Institute of Company Directors' 2018 not-for-profit director of the year in recognition for her work.

The RFDS thanked its outgoing board members for their service and expressed confidence in its new appointments.

RFDS WA chief executive Rebecca Tomkinson will be speaking at a Business News Success and Leadership series breakfast on November 29.
