Lotterywest picks supply contract winners

A Canadian company and a New South Wales business have been awarded a $26.9 million contract to manufacture and deliver lotto scratchcard tickets for Lotterywest.

Winnipeg-based Pollard Banknote, and Western Sydney headquartered Scientific Games International were picked as a supplier panel for the state government owned lottery operator.

The two will manufacture instant lottery tickets until at least 2024, with further extensions to 2029 possible.

There were three submissions for the tender.

The previous manufacturer of lottery tickets was Florida-based IGT Global Solutions Corporation.

IGT’s deal operated from 2010, with the contract’s original value coming in at $31 million.

But there were two big variations in the contract last year which cut its price down to $24 million.

Lotterywest’s annual report shows the company had sales of $107 million Scratch & Win tickets in the 2018 financial year, out of a total $855 million in sales.

Prizes distributed amounted to about $463 million, with a further $260 million given back to the community.

ICT Global Solutions was later added to the tender panel.

Lotterwest chief executive Susan Hunt offered congratulations to the successful bidders.

“It is technically challenging and very expensive to produce secure instant lottery tickets and there were no applications submitted from Western Australia or elsewhere within Australia, with only a handful of companies in the world working in this highly specialised area,” Ms Hunt said.
