New car sales in Western Australia dipped back into the red last month after showing rare signs of improvement in August.
About 8,400 new cars were sold in WA in September, down 3.1 per cent on the previous corresponding period and 5.6 per cent lower in the year to date, according to the latest Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries figures.
The September result was a negative turnaround from a 4.2 per cent improvement in August.
Nationally, new car sales were unusually lower for the month, down 2.4 per cent at 100,200 new vehicle sales, but were still up 0.2 per cent in the year to date.
Despite the poor performance in WA, Toyota outperformed its September 2016 result by 10.5 per cent with 1,950 new cars sold.
The second-highest new car seller for September was Hyundai, which fell just short of 1,000 sales but was 16 per cent down on the previous corresponding period.
Ford sales ticked up a slight 1.3 per cent with 631 new units sold, while Holden sales plummeted 28.8 per cent with 493 sales.
Zero Ferrari sales in September pushed the Italian sports car maker’s year to date result down 15.4 per cent, while Lamborghini broke even for the month with two sales, however it is still down 9 per cent for the year.
Porsche sales slipped 30 per cent with 16 new cars sold, while Jaguar sales were up 83.3 per cent with 11 sales.
Aston Martin also sold no new cars last month; however, it is still up by 9.1 per cent for the year to date.
