$12m ACEPT training facility upgrade begins

Work is officially under way on the second stage of the Australian Centre for Energy Process Training facility in Munster, with the first sod turned today.

The second stage of the oil and gas training facility, valued at $12 million, is being carried out by PS Structures and will incorporate facilities for mechanical, electrical, structural and civil engineering.

“The development of stage two of the ACEPT campus will include computer labs, mechatronics and metallurgy laboratories, workshops and machine rooms, as well as two oil and gas processing simulator rooms,” Training and Workforce Development Minister Liza Harvey said.

“The facility is an industry-standard simulation and processing operations plant which replicates the oil and gas processing plants across Australia, ensuring our students are 100 per cent job-ready the moment they graduate.”

The upgrades will replace old facilities at the TAFE Beconsfield campus, and will have the capacity to accommodate more students.

Ms Harvey said in a constantly evolving resources sector, it was essential that South Metropolitan TAFE, where the new facility is located, remained at the forefront of industry requirements.

“This facility will help ensure ACEPT, TAFE and Western Australia preserve its coveted position as Australia’s leader in training for the resources sector,” she said.
