Vincent cottage to be saved

AN OLD cottage at 245 Vincent Street, Leederville is to be retained and restored as an entry statement for the Town of Vincent.

The cottage, across the road from the council’s headquarters on Vincent Street has been left idle for several years and is in serious need of renovation.

Vincent Mayor John Hyde said the original plan had been to refurbish the cottage as a “live work project” in conjunction with the Central Metropolitan College of TAFE.

“However, there was a possibility TAFE might not wish to continue the collaboration, plus additional work was needed, requiring an additional $25,500 on top of the original budget of $60,000,” Mr Hyde said.

He said the Vincent community would be invited to comment on an acceptable alternate use for the property.

Council has authorised Vincent CEO John Giorgi to negotiate with other like-minded community groups such as those involved in the work-for-the-dole schemes if the TAFE did not wish to continue with the project.

It also approved the reallocation of additional funds needed to complete the project.
