Work is expected to start shortly on a new shopping centre at the old Station Street Markets in Subiaco, with construction contractor Doric appointed this week.
The $80 million development comprises a shopping centre, anchored by Coles and Target, at the old markets site, which has been closed since midway through last year.
Along with the supermarket and department store, the four-storey development will include 6,000 square metres of office space and 400 parking bays.
Local developer Windsor Knight is behind the project, which was designed by architecture firm Taylor Robinson.
Doric managing director Vince Mulholland said the project would provide a significant boost to the near-city suburb.
“As a company, we seek to maintain a strong presence within specialist sectors, and this exciting project affords us an excellent opportunity to continue doing so,” he said.
“As a resident of Subiaco, we look forward to playing a part in the revitalisation of the area.”
Doric is expected to complete the work by September 2017.
Also in Subiaco, work is expected to recommence shortly on Chinese developer Dradgin Pte Ltd’s $100 million office, hotel and retail complex at 500 Hay Street.
Local builder Cooper & Oxley was appointed in February last year to build the Campion Design Group designed-development, which will comprise a 168-room hotel and a 10,000sqm office building.
Construction work started on the project midway through last year, but Business News understands the developer had issues with its finance facility and work stopped prior to any of the structure coming out of the ground.
Cooper & Oxley general manager Kam Hishmeh said those finance issues were now sorted, and the main construction work would start shortly.
International hotel group Park Regis has been signed to operate the hotel, while negotiations for an anchor tenant to take up the office space are ongoing.
