ASX listed medical device company Analytica have pointed to a recent article on Bloomberg, which is getting global coverage on the growth in the adult diaper market to highlight the need for an effective treatment for urinary incontinence, a condition that can be cured or dramatically reduced using Analytica’s “Peri-Coach” device.
The “Peri-Coach” is a medical device that accurately monitors the effectiveness of pelvic floor exercises designed to cure or reduce urinary incontinence.
Urinary incontinence is caused by weakness to the pelvic floor muscles and is most commonly caused by trauma to the muscles during childbirth, but also exercises such as weights training.
For some time, women have used incontinence pads to address the condition and it appears this is on the increase. The Bloomberg article notes that sales of adult incontinence garments in the US could equal those of baby diapers in a decade, with pharmaceutical giants like Kimberly Clark targeting this lucrative adult segment of the market.
Bloomberg states that: “Growth in the adult-diaper market is outpacing that of every other paper-based household staple in the U.S” with Euromonitor International forecasting “a 48 percent increase in sales in the category to $2.7 billion in 2020 from $1.8 billion last year”.
Whilst diapers and pads are an increasingly popular option for women with urinary incontinence, they only address the symptoms and not the underlying cause of the condition. This condition is also linked to many quality of life issues and health conditions like depression, decreases in sexual satisfaction, obesity and diabetes.
Some PeriCoach customers have reported noticeable improvement in their continence in as little as two weeks, and have stopped using pads in as quickly as two months.
PeriCoach is the only device that monitors pelvic floor muscle strength directly and captures and shares valuable data with patients and clinicians to monitor progress. The PeriCoach system has FDA clearance in the US, TGA clearance in Australia and CE Marking for Europe.
Analytica’s studies and post-marketing surveys report women who use PeriCoach have reduced or eliminated urinary incontinence symptoms, feel dryer, more secure, more confident and experience the benefits of a stronger pelvic floor in various areas of their lives including sexual function.
