Tugboat operator Teekay Shipping has avoided strike action scheduled for this weekend, reaching terms for new enterprise agreement for its engineers in Port Hedland
The firm said the agreement had been endorsed by the Australian Institute of Marine & Power Engineers.
Business News understands terms of the agreement are similar to a new deal reached between the tugboat operator and its deckhands earlier this month.
Those terms included 28 additional days of leave per year, a freeze on pay rises in the first year, and 2 per cent wage increases in the second, third and fourth years of the arrangement.
Teekay said the agreement would be presented to the engineers for an approval vote next week.
"Assuming the agreement is approved, Teekay will apply to the Fair Work Commission for approval under the Fair Work Act 2009," the company said in a statement.
Teekay has been dealing with strike action at Port Hedland by its deckhands and engineers for the majority of the last six months.
However, the deckhands agreed to a new deal earlier this month after more than 12 months of negotiations.
Teekay operates towage services in Port Hedland under a contract with BHP Billiton Iron Ore.
The company operates 14 tugboats out of the port, employing 166 crew.
