OzJet, which starts services on March 14, will offer Perth business travellers some significantly different travel options.
The airline will operate a 60-seat all-business class configuration in its daily Boeing 737-200s service.
The airline’s fares between Perth and Melbourne start at $499 one-way, providing what the airline terms “a luxurious, large leather seat and service that includes free hot meals on fine china and complimentary beverages”.
Other fare levels are $599, $699 and, with full flexibility, $799.
Fares between Sydney and Perth start from $699, with a stop in Melbourne before direct services begin later this year.
The Sydney-Perth fares will range up to $999 for a fully flexible ticket.
OzJet’s flight to Perth departs Melbourne at 8pm, arriving in Perth at 9.15pm during daylight saving in the eastern states and 10.15pm after that (from April 2).
The departures from Perth will initially be at 10.40pm and then at 11.40pm when daylight saving ends in the eastern states.
OzJet has four Boeing 737-200 aircraft in Australia, with a fifth due to arrive in late March.
According to OzJet chief execu-tive Hans van Pelt, a “key priority for the fifth aircraft will be the addition of a second daily service between Perth and Melbourne that will depart Perth either at the start or the end of a business day”.
OzJet has been operating between Sydney and Melbourne since late November 2005.
Every OzJet seat has a minimum 102 centimetre pitch and is 47cm wide between the armrests, providing significant extra legroom and more lateral space, and giving travellers lots of room to work in privacy, read a broadsheet newspaper or, on a west-east flight, to sleep.
OzJet cabins have only 15 rows of seats, configured two-two either side of the aisle, thereby eliminating middle seats.
Passengers can take three pieces of hand luggage in the cabin up to a total of 20 kilograms.
Unlike many new entrants into the cutthroat airline market, OzJet’s flamboyant owner Paul Stoddard initially planned to launch a low-cost airline a few years ago, but refocused on another business model when Jetstar was announced.
