Children’s charity Variety WA moved into its new headquarters in Burswood late last month, following a grant from the state government.
The government contributed $1.2 million through a Lotterywest grant towards the $2.8 million building project.
Speaking at the centre’s opening Premier Colin Barnett said Variety WA helped children with a disability or serious illness by providing special equipment to support their needs as well as programs to promote participation and fun.
“These new premises provide a professional working base that will give Variety WA the space and amenities it needs to look after some of our most vulnerable West Australians and help improve their future,” Mr Barnett said
Mr Barnett also recognised the important role volunteers made in fundraising and donating their time.
WA is the only state where the money raised from lottery products is distributed back to the community to support good causes.
Variety WA helps around four families each week by providing grants for items, including modified tricycles, electric beds and communication devices for disabled children.
Last financial year Lotterywest delivered $258.3 million in grants, with $117.8 million given to 1,333 community and charitable organisations and the remaining $140.5 million worth of statutory grants given to hospitals and the arts.
