Bristow Helicopters Australia has started work on the construction of a $7 million helicopter hangar and heliport at Karratha Airport.
The hangar will help Bristow support its services to off-coast oil and gas operations for Apache Energy, Santos and Vermilion ENergy.
It will be built by design and construction specialist Northwest Shedmasters and should be completed in six months.
Bristow’s Australian business unit director Allan Blake said the hangar would provide modern facilities to support its helicopter services to some of Australia’s most significant offshore drilling and production facilities.
“The heliport, in particular, will make our passengers’ journeys easier by enabling them to embark from our facility to their offshore workplace, rather than from Karratha’s main airport terminal,” Mr Blake said.
“This new facility will help us to continue providing passengers with a reliable, safe and smooth journey to and from work.”
The hangar is designed to accommodate up to five large helicopters.
Bristow Australia has a total of 29 helicopters.
