Southern Cross in $9m Rio contract win

Southern Cross Electrical Engineering has won a $9 million contract with Rio Tinto for overhead power lines at the Yandi iron ore mine in the Pilbara.

Works will commence in June and are forecast to be complete by January.

Managing director Simon High said it was pleased to have been awarded the works.

“It allows us to continue to grow our specialised infrastructure business, KJ Johnson, with a combination of both greenfield and brownfield works, which is in line with our strategic objectives,” Mr High said in a statement.

“There are a number of optional items of work on this project, which we would hope that based on good performance with the current scope, Southern Cross would be well placed to be awarded.”

By close of trade today, Southern Cross stocks had shed 1.7 per cent, trading at $1.16.
