Iron ore producer Atlas Iron has appointed its chief commercial officer Mark Hancock and lawyer Geoff Simpson to its board, as part of the company’s expansion plans.
Mr Hancock has joined the board as an executive director while Mr Simpson has been appointed as an independent non-executive director.
Mr Hancock joined Atlas in 2006 as chief financial officer before being promoted to CCO.
Mr Simpson is the managing partner of law firm Allen and Overy’s Perth office, as well as the global head of its mining group.
Atlas managing director Ken Brinsden said Mr Hancock had been instrumental in Atlas’ success.
“Mark has made a huge contribution to Atlas since he joined us in 2006,” Mr. Brinsden said.
“His experience will be invaluable at the board level as Atlas drives its expansion strategy.”
Atlas Iron chairman David Flanagan said Mr Hancock’s expertise would be invaluable as Atlas continues to execute strategy for rapid production growth.
Following the appointments the company board will comprise of five independent non-executive directors, one non-executive director and three executive directors, which will drop to two when Mr Flanagan becomes non-executive chairman in August.
Atlas is working on plans to expand its iron ore production rate from 6 million tonnes per annum to 46Mtpa.
