Mining and civil contractor Brierty’s joint venture with Ngarluma Yindjibarndi Foundation has won a $55 million contract to develop land for housing for Rio Tinto at Wickham, in the Pilbara.
Brierty will develop 221 housing lots at the recently-approved South Wickham subdivision, to provide housing for Rio’s construction workforce for the expansion of the Cape Lambert port.
The first stage of the project, which this contract covers, will comprise earthworks, services, roadworks and landscaping.
The works are estimated to take nine months to complete.
Brierty managing director Peter McBain said the company was proud to provide employment and business opportunities for the Ngarluma and Yinjibarndi people.
“Slowly but surely our people are grasping these opportunities and not just in an operational sense,” Mr McBain said.
“We have others keen to get involved in administration and management. These JVs help use drive these opportunities.”
