The catering industry is so competitive at the moment that even wineries are getting in on the act.
This week, Sandalford Wines will open its Underground Cellar, a purpose-build extension of its already salubrious cellar door and restaurant facilities at Caversham.
The 300-seat venue is designed to extend the winery’s reach into the corporate market, aiming to cater for conferences, product launches and social club events.
However, the first product to be launched from the new premises will be the latest addition to Sandalford’s stable – the Protégé wine range.
Sandalford has made a concerted effort this year to branch out into the ancillary facets associated with wine tourism. As Gusto reported in June, Sandalford Wines was awarded ‘Best Wine Tourism Facility’ at the 2005 WA Wine Industry Awards gala dinner.
The award was recognition of the company’s commitment to wine tourism in Western Australia through its Swan Valley and Margaret River properties. It was the third consecutive year Sandalford received the award.
