The construction and infrastructure boom driven in the main by the resources industry has proved a catalyst for the return to Perth of lawyer Simon Lee (left), a partner with national law firm Sparke Helmore. Mr Lee told WA Business News that the current flurry of activity in WA had created big demand for work in his specialist field acting for mining companies, major and specialist contractors and the overseas insurance market. He said his move from Sydney would provide a permanent presence in this sector in WA for Sparke Helmore, which now has three partners and 12 lawyers in Perth. Mr Lee said that he worked for West Perth maritime specialist Cocks MacNish for most of the 1990s before heading east to join Ebsworth & Ebsworth in Sydney. He became a partner of that firm in 2000. Last year, he joined Sparke Helmore as one of two construction, engineering and projects partners, with joint responsibility for managing a team of 20 lawyers in four offices.
