While spring, for some, is a time of rebirth, fresh starts and new directions, for others this time of year heralds the start of a gastronomical adventure that only gets better as the months get warmer.
One event to be celebrated at this time of year is the reopening of Vince Gareffa’s Mondo’s Markets.
Ever Saturday morning from March to May, and now from September to December, the back of Mr Gareffa’s Inglewood ‘meating place’ is transformed.
A kaleidoscope of local fresh produce, organic boutique lines and family-grown speciality items, many with no independent retail exposure is available. Expect locally produced coffee, bread, olive oil and cheese with an abundance of fresh fruit and veg.

There has been plenty of speculation about Lion Nathan’s $352 million bid to take control of South Australian brewery Coopers, with a recent legal decision delaying the hotly contested plan.
Last week, Dr Tim Cooper, managing director and head brewer wrote to all registered Coopers customers outlining the board of directors’ decision to meet and discuss the future of the family-controlled unlisted public company.
The company, which has an extremely devoted South Australian following, also enjoys considerable success interstate, notably among the wine making sector. It is the last family-owned brewery in Australia and has for a long time been a model of a successful family business – never falling outside the control of the Cooper family.
The company has asked all shareholders to defer making a decision in regard to the offer.
