ALUMINA giant Alcoa Worldwide Alumina has awarded Western
Australian logistics company Sadleirs Transport a major transport contract.
The four-year contract, valued at more than $10 million, is
for the domestic and international distribution and logistics management of
Alcoa’s hydrated alumina.
Sadleirs will ship between 40,000 and 50,000 tonnes of the
chemical domestically and overseas each year, where it is used in manufacturing
and water treatment.
Sadleirs national commercial manager Geoff Li said a
significant amount of ingenuity and investment went into the submission and the
company was very happy to be awarded the contract.
He said the containers had to be purpose designed and built
for the work, with a strong emphasis on safety.
The containers are built under an IICL International
Container standard, which allows for the carriage of bulk product with the
ability to load product via hatches in the roof and discharge of product
through smaller discharge doors.
Mr Li said the benefit of this type of equipment was its
robust design, with payloads to 30,000 kilograms.
