SEVERAL peak industry bodies are firing up GST information
and education programs for their sectors, with contracts signed or being secured with the GST Start-Up Assistance Office.
The Australian Trucking Association and its member organisations have already started to run GST seminars nationally as part of its $1.7 million GST start-up funding.
The Australian Hotels Associ-ation has received $800,000 in
funding. It will be holding a series of workshops and seminars in capital cities and regional centres.
The National Council of Independent School Associations has received $4 million funding for independent schools across Australia.
Association executive director Fergus Thomson said the independent school sector was keen to ensure GST was properly implemented, given the complexities of independent school operation requirements.
“This funding will provide a range of training and information resources to assist the sector manage the implementation of the new tax system,” Mr Thomson said.
GST Start-Up Assistance Office general manager Jim Hagan said organisations were keen to implement GST education to help their sectors get GST ready.
“Both members and non-members will be able to access assistance through this program,” Mr Hagan said.
“Contracts with our office are being finalised everyday.”
Mr Hagan said it was not too late for peak bodies that thought their industry had missed out on GST start up assistance funds to apply.
