RETRAVISION has become WA cricket’s major sponsor after signing a naming rights agreement with the WACA.
The deal, under which the WA State cricket team will be renamed the ‘Retravision Warriors’, was announced on the eve of the season-opening Lilac Hill festival match.
Retravision’s sponsorship is worth $1 million a year for three years, with a review of the agreement after one year.
It builds on the relationship formed last year when Retravision put its support behind WA junior cricket.
Retravision chairman Bill Harries said he was looking forward to a closer association with WA cricket and believed the deal was good for cricket and good for Retravision.
Retravision has been looking for sponsorship opportunities for a number of years, he said, and the naming sponsor deal with WA cricket was seen to be the most appropriate.
It was the WA team’s traditions and heritage that was the major attraction.
“It’s a great fit because we share the same values,” Mr Harries said.
“It’s a logical sponsorship.”
WA cricket has been lacking a major sponsor following the decision earlier this year by Western Power to scale down its involvement.
By including a naming sponsor the Warriors are joining the national trend for State cricket teams started with the introduction in recent years of the Speed Blitz Blues from New South Wales and Queensland’s XXXX Bulls.
General manager of business development at the WACA Darren Beasley said it was the local presence of Retravision that really appealed to the administration during the search for a major sponsor.
Mr Beasley said he believed WA cricket could develop a long-term partnership with Retravision.
