ITS Golfing Western Australia television series may only be a few weeks old but FWA Media says there is a good market for a magazine version of the show.
It is not unfamiliar territory for the Channel 9-based media company that launched the magazine version of its show
Fishing Western Australia a year after the series commenced.
FWA Media director Rik Thornton said TV-based magazines work well.
“We have had a magazine for Fishing WA for two years and that model worked very well,” he said.
“In its first month it was the market leader, that was September 2001, and it has been continually growing.
“The Golfing WA magazine will cover different material to the show but there will be things that are similar like the golf courses we got to on the show. There will be a golf course profile each month.”
Golfing WA presenter David Watson will be involved in the magazine’s production and its editor is Fishing WA’s editor Harry Baumann.
Mr Thornton said he believed the GolfingWA magazine would be the only WA-focused golfing magazine.
“Nationally there are about three major golfing magazines and locally there really is none,” he said.
The first issue is expected to have about 60 pages and will hit newsagents’ stands in July.
The 12-part Golfing WA television series commenced on Channel 9 on May 4 and FishingWA, now in its third year, will continue for another two seasons.
But do not expect it to be too long before another WA-based program hits the airwaves.
“We are always looking for new shows but it’s one day at a time. We’ll get the first series of Golfing WA under our belt and then see,” Mr Thornton said.
