THE Western Australian Government Railways Commission has awarded a tender for the supply, installation and testing of optical fibre cables for the Armadale railway line. According to the WA Government website, the tender has been awarded to Underground Services Australia and has a value of $1,671,413.48. There were 11 submissions for this tender.
.NET Passport security flaw
THE Gartner association has responded to Microsoft’s public announcement on May 8 regarding a recently discovered security flaw in .NET passport saying that businesses should continue to protect themselves until at least November 2003, or until such time that Microsoft can prove that the security loophole has been fixed.

US leads in cybercrime
MORE than 60 per cent of the world’s cybercrime originates in the US, with hacking and fraud at the top of the offences, the International Chamber of Commerce’s annual Cybercrime Review has found.
The review looks at major cybercrime events from January 2002 to March 2003. It found that 63 per cent of last year’s reported computer-related crime originated in the US, but included case studies from countries such as Japan, New Zealand, and Romania.
