BUSPAK Advertising Group has again won the licence to advertise on Transperth buses, other assets and facilities, potentially up until 2011.
It had previously held the licence for about five years.
According to the Western Australian Government’s contracting information bulletin board, Buspak paid $13,130,000 for the licence which runs until March 1, 2008 but can be extended until March 1, 2011.
Buspak sales and business development manager Mark Kennedy said the licence it had won was identical to the one it held before.
Under the licence, Buspak can sell advertising space and produce posters to go on the rear and sides of Government buses, ferries and on the reverse of cash tickets. But advertising space on tickets will disappear as new smart card ticketing technology is introduced, probably by the end of 2004.
Bus advertising has proved very popular with a number of retailers and service providers. Mr Kennedy said Curtin University of Technology, the WA Tourism Commission and Bakewell Pies were among some of the companies starting new campaigns.
While the licence contract stipulates Transperth facilities, it will not include advertising on bus shelters which is controlled by Adshel.
Adshel is responsible for bus shelter construction and usually enters into an arrangement with the local government governing the area the bus shelter is sited in.
