John Sanderson
Lieutenant General John Sanderson, AC, Governor of Western Australia
His Excellency Lieutenant General John Sanderson, AC was sworn in as the 29th Governor of Western Australia on 18 August 2000.
He had retired as the Chief of the Australian Army in 1998 after 40 years of service and agreed to a 2 year extension of his term of office as Governor of Western Australia in 2003.
He has commanded at all levels including a large multi national force in Cambodia in the early 1990’s. His contribution in many areas has been recognised by Australia and other countries including the USA with the award of Legion of Merit – Commander Class, for his contribution to bilateral and regional relationships.
