An Australian Financial Review poll of its readers voted Mr Symond as one of the country’s ten most influential business, economic and political leaders over the last 60 years. He is the first non-banker to be inducted into the Banking and Finance Magazine Hall of Fame in 2004. Mr Symond retired as chair of Aussie Home Loans in November 2020.
Mr Symond was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia in 2002 for services to the mortgage industry in Australia, particularly the home finance sector, and to the community.
A supporter of the arts and philanthropy, he received the 2012 Australian Father of the Year award from the Shepherd Centre, and the Gold Harold Humanitarian Award in 2013 from Life Education for his ongoing philanthropic interest in children’s causes and charities.
