Anne Sorenson

Anne Sorenson has a long history in Youth Arts in WA and has been empowering young people through the performing arts in Western Australia for over 20 years. With a strong physical theatre and group devised methodology, she used theatre to bring the voice of children and young people to high levels of Government such as the Commissioner for Children and Young People, the Clinical Senate on Youth Health, and the Australian Youth Affairs Council. Ms Sorenson has postgraduate qualifications in Education and Drama Therapy (ECU) and has lectured in Theatre of The Oppressed at Curtin University for over 10 years. For two decades Ms Sorenson managed youth arts projects, creating and producing performances with disengaged youth, former refugees and migrant youth, with Indigenous youth and with young emerging artists. The high quality of her work has attracted a number of awards and award nominations across a variety of sectors and she has published journal articles and reports about using theatre as a tool for research and education. As a performance artist Ms Sorenson has written, directed, produced and performed in many shows ranging from giant puppetry extravaganzas to site specific dance performances and Fringe World theatre shows. She has travelled extensively, taught and studied with leaders in contemporary performance around the globe.
