Wood & Grieve Engineers is set to be acquired by international company Stantec, nearly 60 years after the Perth-based company was established.
Wood & Grieve, which is ranked 13th on the BNiQ Engineers list, has signed a letter of intent to merge with Stantec, after the company’s board passed a motion last week.
Stantec is a diversified professional services company with more than 400 offices across the world.
Wood & Grieve was founded in 1961 by former University of Western Australia engineering students Tony Wood and Kip Grieve.
The pair flipped a coin to decide whose name would appear first.
Since the company was established it has grown to become a national engineering consulting business, which includes six offices across the country and over 500 staff.
There will be a two-month due diligence period, with the deal expected to close in January.
Wood & Grieve will come under the Stantec branding following the acquisition.
There are not expected to be any significant staff changes, with Wood & Grieve retaining the same management.
Wood & Grieve chief executive Jose Granado said the move would benefit employees and clients.
“We’ve seen an unprecedented amount of growth from WGE over the last 12 months and been fortunate to work on some amazing projects around Australia,” he said.
“This strong trend of growth across Australia prompted us to explore opportunities to expand our reach and the obvious pathway was through partnership with a like-minded organisation.
“We wanted a partner that could integrate our services and shared WGE’s vision and culture.
“After identifying and assessing several candidates, it was clear that Stantec was a great fit for our organisation.
“Stantec’s outstanding track record of delivering iconic projects to the highest standard, client-centric culture, and exemplary attitude made them the ideal partner and we’re excited about what this opportunity will be mean for our team and our clients.”
Stantec president Gord Johnson said the expertise of Wood & Grieve was an important asset.
“WGE brings the creative culture, demonstrated expertise, and regional presence to help us continually serve communities throughout Australia with an expanded array of services,” he said.
“Together, our teams will successfully support some of the largest, most critically important infrastructure projects in the region.”
Wood & Grieve has completed a number of significant projects in recent years, including engineering services for Perth Stadium and Fiona Stanley hospital.
