Westralia Airports Corporation continues to enjoy the state's boom conditions with passenger numbers climbing more than 12 per cent to 4 million in the half year to 31st December 2006.
Perth Airport executive chair David Crawford also today announced a $300,000 upgrade of Terminal 3, which currently services Virgin Blue, Skywest, newcomer Alliance Airlines and from next month, OzJet.
The Terminal's floor plan will be re-configured, opening up 330 sqm of floor space, allowing more seating areas and providing opportunity to add more retail outlets.
The upgrade is part of a four year $275 million capital works program announced late last year.
Mr Crawford said Western Australia's continued resources boom remained a significant driving force for the record-breaking passenger numbers, facilitated by an increasing number of airlines, flights and destinations.
"The volume is mainly coming from domestic and regional travellers, with an increase of 15.5 per cent on what was already a record base," he said.
According to Mr Crawford "growth in the second quarter of this financial year was particularly strong at 9.3 per cent for international and 18.5 per cent for domestic (travel)."
Work on the three month project is expected to start in April, with the terminal functioning normally throughout that time.

New airlines, a bumper holiday season and the city's special events have led to another set of record passenger numbers at Perth Airport, triggering more improvements to its facilities.
Half-year results released by Perth Airport show total passenger numbers grew by just over 12% to the end of December 2006, to more than four million people.
Executive Chairman of Perth Airport, Mr David Crawford, said Western Australia's continued resources boom remained a significant driving force, facilitated by an increasing number of airlines, flights and destinations.
"Almost half-a-million more people came through Perth Airport in the first six months of this financial year compared with the same period last year - people on business, on holiday and on their way home," said Mr Crawford.
"The volume is mainly coming from domestic and regional travellers, with an increase of 15.5% on what was already a record base. International travel, though fuelled by different factors, posted healthy growth of 3.7% over the same period.
"Growth in the second quarter of this financial year was particularly strong at 9.3% for international and 18.5% for domestic.
"As the fundamentals underpinning travel demand continue to strengthen, we are working closely with our partners to build capacity - more parking, more retail outlets and more terminal space" he added.
Mr Crawford announced a $300,000 upgrade of Terminal 3, which currently services Virgin Blue, Skywest, newcomer Alliance Airlines and from next month, OzJet.
"We will reconfigure the existing floor plan of Terminal 3 opening up 330m2 of floor space which will allow more seating areas and provide opportunity to add retail in the future," said Mr Crawford.
"This upgrade is another part of our four year $275 million capital works program that is responding to the challenges of growth and taking us closer to our goal of making Perth Airport the most successful in Australia."
Work on the three month project is expected to start in April, with the terminal functioning normally throughout that time.
