WBHO wins $41m road contract

WBHO Infrastructure has been awarded a $41 million contract to upgrade the Great Northern Highway between Maggie Creek and Wyndham in the Kimberley region.

Under the design and construct contract, WBHO will reconstruct and realign a six-kilometre stretch of the highway known as ‘Maggies Jump Up’, including construction of a northbound passing lane.

Twenty two kilometres of the highway from Maggie Creek to the Wyndham townsite will also be reconstructed, as well as improving drainage.

Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said the works would improve safety and reliability of the highway to help meet the future demands of the Kimberley Region road network.

“This project will improve substandard sections of the highway which are prone to flooding and struggle to accommodate road trains carrying cattle, minerals and produce to the Port of Wyndham,” she said

Construction on the project is due to start in April 2018 with completion expected in late-2018.
