Western Australia’s mining towns have dominated a list of the richest localities in Australia, ranked by personal and household income.
CommSec analysis of the latest release of Census data showed Western Australian towns occupied the first 13 spots of the ranking of Australia’s towns with the highest personal incomes.
The postal code with the highest median income was 6710, covering towns including Onslow, Cane and Peedamulla.
The median weekly income in that region was $2,000, Commsec said.
The mining towns of Newman, Bullfinch, Ennuin, tom Price, Rocklea, Fortescue and Hamersley Range also featured prominently in the rankings.
Also, Dampier was ranked top of the list for highest proportion of households earning more than $4,000 a week, with 22.3 per cent.
“The mining boom has significantly influenced the latest Census results,” CommSec chief economist Craig James said.
“Not only do mining and energy regions dominate the lists of highest personal income and highest household income, but they are also regions of gender imbalance with males dominating industry employment.”
