End-of-financial-year specials failed to maintain May's positive tone on new car sales for Western Australia, with numbers for June down 5.5 per cent as the financial year ended with a whimper.
About 10,160 new cars were sold in WA in June, down 5.5 per cent on June 2016.
Total sales in WA for the six months to June were 48,220, down 7.1 per cent on the same period last year.
It’s a disappointing result, considering new car sales in WA gained ground in May for the first time in four years.
Nationally, new car sales in June were up 4.4 per cent, bringing the year-to-date figure up 0.2 per cent.
Market leader Toyota sold 2,172 new cars in WA in June, down 1.6 per cent for the month, while Hyundai sold the second-most new units in the state with 1,085 cars sold, down 3.8 per cent.
It follows news last month that Toyota Australia had made a $99 million profit for the 12 months to March, down 58 per cent on its 2015-16 result.
Meanwhile, Ford sales were down 2.6 per cent with 809 new car sales last month, while Holden sales plummeted 30.1 per cent with 605 sales.
Ferrari, which sold no new cars in the last month of FY16, sold three new cars last month. Lamborghini doubled its June 2016 performance with two sales.
Aston Martin also notched two sales for the month, up from zero sales in June 2016.
