Western Australia’s automotive industry has continued its good run with strong a sales result in April, which was boosted by a big increase in SUV sales for the month, according to the latest data from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries.
New vehicle sales in WA were 7.3 per cent higher in April, compared with last year, to 7,119, with a 17 per cent spike in SUV sales, which made up 3,159 of the vehicles sold.
Heavy commercial vehicle sales increased 35.1 per cent to 254, while sales of light commercial vehicles rose 4.5 per cent.
Passenger vehicle sales were off 5.1 per cent for the month.
On an annual basis, new vehicle sales have risen 5.7 per cent in WA to sit at 31,616.
New vehicle sales have increased since the start of the year, with a 1.3 per cent increase in March.
The figure has been aided by a 10.3 per cent increase in SUV sales.
Vehicle sales were off 0.2 per cent in April nation wide, while for the year to April sales are up 3.3 per cent to 374,468.
SUV sales were up 15.3 per cent nationally in April, and have increased nearly 12 per cent over the past year.
Passenger vehicle sales were off 14.4 per cent for the month and have dropped 7.7 per cent on an annual basis.
