Western Australia’s top architecture prize, the George Temple Pool award, was handed to Melbourne-based studio Jackson Clements Burrows Architects last Friday night for an Applecross residence.
The firm also received the single residential award for the same project, described by Royal Australian Institute of Architects WA president Rod Mollett as exquisite, harmonious and memorable.
RAIA WA’s ‘night of nights’ saw Bates Smart take home two awards for commercial and interior architecture for the Pearl Room at Burswood Entertainment Complex, and the Architectural Design Studio (WA) receive an award for its Yongergnow Australian Malleefowl Centre.
Woods Bagot’s studio fit-out also took out an interior award.
Public architecture was recognised with JCY Architects & Urban designers taking out an awards for its library at Edith Cowan University Joondalup and City of Canning Administration and Civic Building, while Hames Sharley won an award for the UWA biomedical research facility.
Two Residential Alterations and Additions awards were presented to Iredale Pederson Hook Architects for a Gooseberry Hill house and Chindarsi Architects for its Temby & Logan residence.
In the multiple residential category, Wright Feldhusen Architects and Co-praxis were the only winners, with the Buchan Group Perth and Mathews Architecture taking out awards for small projects.
On the conservation front, Broderick Architects was recognised for its work on the former St Brigid’s School.
