Uniqlo on its way to Perth CBD

Japanese fashion retailer Uniqlo will open its first Western Australian store in Perth’s Murray Street Mall, with a flagship two-level shop anchoring a $6 million redevelopment of Plaza Arcade.

Business News reported earlier this year that Plaza Arcade owner Starhill Global REIT had submitted plans to redevelop the Murray Street end of the mall, creating a single tenancy of more than 2,000 square metres over two levels to accommodate an international retailer.

Singapore-based Starhill Global declined to reveal the identity of that retailer; however, the plans were approved at a City of Perth development assessment panel late last month, a hearing that was attended by two representatives from Uniqlo.

Uniqlo operates 12 stores in NSW, Queensland and Victoria, but has yet to open a Perth store.
