Truck driver shortage costs CBH

The state’s largest grain handler has had to advise thousands of members that it is struggling to transport grain to ports and meet shipping commitments.

CBH Group has reportedly notified 4,000 members today regarding its inability to move grain at the rate required to meet its shipping schedule in the wake of a state-wide shortage of train and truck drivers.

The transportation issues come on the back of a record breaking number of shipments in December last year, driven by strong international demand for WA grain.

The integrated grain storage, handling and marketing co-operative, is controlled and owned by around 4,200 grain growers and is worth about $3.2 billion.

CBH Group has grown to become Australia's biggest grain handler and also owns a 50 per cent stake in Interflour which operates seven flour mills in Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia and Turkey, including a grain port terminal in Vietnam.
