Transperth has signed on with transport systems technology specialist Vix Technology, formerly ERG, to carry out a trial aimed at improving Perth’s public transport network.
Vix will provide real-time vehicle tracking and traffic management for Transperth’s bus network, with an aim of improving services and information available to existing passengers, as well as luring new bus customers.
The 12-month trial will be conducted on 80 buses operating out of Transperth’s Karrinyup depot early next year.
“We have deployed many similar systems successfully throughout the UK, France and recently in Wellington, NZ, and we are seeing increased patronage of these services and improved operator efficiency as a result,” Vix Technology chief executive Steve Gallagher said.
Transperth said the trial would provide key information which would be used to determine stand allocation and traffic control at the new underground busport on Wellington Street, part of the Perth City Link project.
