Junior explorer, Torian Resources has unearthed more high-grade gold from a regional drilling push at its Mt Stirling gold project near Leonora in Western Australia. New intercepts from only two holes drilled at the recently discovered Unexpected prospect include a four metre strike going 4.86 grams per tonne gold from 52m and a 1m hit grading 7.41 g/t gold from 64m.
The 4m hit at Unexpected, forming part of the ‘Estera Lode’, also takes in a richer 1m interval at a sensational 18.79 g/t gold.
The new results add to the discovery hole from late last month where a 2m intercept at 12.18 g/t gold from 20m was returned. Torian believes the new hits at Unexepected represent a sub-parallel zone to the discovery hole.
The Mt Stirling gold project consists of two adjoining blocks – the Stirling Block to the north and the Diorite Block to the south.
Torian has already defined a solid 102,000 ounce resource at its Mt Stirling gold deposit located in the Stirling Block. Its nearby Stirling Well deposit, with 16,000 ounces of contained gold, also lies in the Stirling Block.
The company has been smashing out the metres in a regional exploration drive at its tenure resulting in the high-grade discovery at Unexpected in the Diorite Block. Notably, the exciting discovery lies about 10km south of the Mt Stirling deposit.
Torian Resources Executive Director, Peretz Schapiro said: “This new discovery at Diorite continues to demonstrate the prospectivity of our Mt Stirling Gold Project.
We now have a minimum of 5 significant targets (Mt Stirling / Viserion, Hydra, Stirling Well, Tyrannus and Estera) where we have identified what may be numerous significant gold systems. All of these targets will be followed up during the next phase of drilling, details of which will be announced to the market shortly.”
The Diorite Block hosts multiple historical workings including the Diorite King mine that, according to Torian churned out gold at a sensational 76 g/t. Four historical mines in the vicinity of Unexpected produced the precious yellow metal at more than an ounce per tonne, the company adds.
It believes the four historical workings share structural links.
Torian has wasted little time in following-up the high-grade discovery at Unexpected with the rig already at the prospect for a 750m RC campaign.
Four holes will look to extend the strike length at the discovery, with another two holes set to test down-dip continuity of mineralisation. The holes will be sunk adjacent to a line of historical workings where potential for multiple sub-parallel mineralised horizons will be investigated.
Torian says the six RC holes mark the start of a new phase of extensive drilling at its broader Mt Stirling tenure.
Multiple significant gold deposits have been defined in proximity to Mt Sterling, including the King of the Hills mine where ASX-listed Red 5 Limited has delineated 4.1 million ounce gold resource.
If Torian continues to return high-grade gold hits at its Mt Sterling tenure, the Perth-based explorer may well add its own major gold deposit to the mineral rich region.
