AFTER a long history of song and dance Max Kay’s Civic Theatre Restaurant is set to begin life as serviced apartments.
With the all the theatre’s stock sold during a six-hour auction on Monday, development of the theatre can proceed.
Civic Rise, a syndicate of Perth property developers purchased the building around five months ago for $2.2 million and are understood to have plans to develop the site into serviced apartments with a restaurant bar component.
Around 160 people attended the auction on Monday.
From a signed Rolf Harris print, which sold for $260 to grand baby piano that sold for $6,500, the bulk of the stock was sold.
Auction Solutions auctioneer Peter Holmes said lighting had to be a big hit with buyers.
Mr Kay said he had produced 60 shows over 25 years in the theatre, operating five to six shows a week, 52 weeks a year.
He said he did not attend the auction, which he said was a successful but sad occasion.
