King River Resources will begin RC drilling at its Tennant Creek gold project in the NT at the weekend, focusing on the Kurundi Main prospect where recent rock chip samples returned gold hits.
Multiple samples at the prospect returned results of up to 17.25 grams per tonne gold along a 2km mineralised trend that has never been drilled.
Kurundi has previously been identified as a priority for King River where sparsely explored tenements with historic high-grade copper-gold mineralisation have been identified.
The company then plans to drill magnetic targets identified at the Lonestar trend directly east of the Tennant Creek gold field.
This area is close to historic workings and outcropping ironstone trends.
The company has previously said multiple magnetic targets in the competitive Barkly project area may also be tested this year.
The move to begin drilling on Saturday shows the company has moved swiftly after the 2021 exploration season was disrupted by covid protocols, rig and staff availability in addition to delays receiving assay results.
King River holds about 7900 square kilometres across 16 tenements in the Northern Territory.
According to the company, its tenure shows stratigraphic and structural similarities to the celebrated Tennant Creek and Rover gold fields.
Gold mining in the region dates back to the 1930s. Tennant Creek gold fields have produced about 5.5 million ounces of gold over the years.
King River also has gold interests across the border at its Mt Remarkable project 200km south-west of Kununurra in the East Kimberley region of Western Australia.
It covers more than 2100 square kilometres of adjacent and nearby granted exploration licences.
The company has identified the Trudi Offset area and Jennifer North prospect as RC drilling targets this year.
High-grade gold was intersected in the areas during RC drilling in 2020.
