The city’s taxi industry continues to plague the local tourism sector, with hotel owners and tourism business operators joining in a chorus of outrage over the standard of the service.
The issue was raised as one of the challenges facing the tourism sector by a number of industry players, including tourism analyst Alan Boys, Broadwater Hotel’s Scott Cogar, and Sandalford’s Grant Brinklow.
Mr Boys says he continues to receive feedback from business travellers regarding their bad experiences with Perth taxis
“The bad experiences that I am hearing about regularly from corporate guests is just appalling. It’s an absolute disgrace,” he said.
Mr Boys blasted Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan for her management of the industry.
“When is Alannah going to finally wake up to the fact that it is run for the benefit of its customers, and not its owners,” he said.
Earlier this month, Ms MacTiernan issued an additional 200 taxi plates over 12 months to service the tremendous growth in demand.
