TAMS expands WA operations

Marine services company TAMS Group has branded its expansion in the north of the state as a strategic move to accommodate an increasing workload.

The company has established new shorebases in Dampier, Port Hedland and Broome, adding to its existing operations in Onslow, Cape Preston and Fremantle.

The new Port Hedland facility provides about 10,000 square metres of office, workshop and laydown yard.

The Broome shorebase, located at the Broome supply base at the town’s port, is positioned to support major resources industry projects and local requirements for marine and port services.

The Dampier location includes landside facilities at the Port of Dampier, within the local supply base.

Tams managing director Dyon Pilmoor said increased workload under existing contracts was behind the expansion.

“The level and calibre of work we are pursuing in the north of the state has necessitated this move, and we are pleased to have secured onshore facilities in three further key strategic port locations,” he said.

“All the things we’ve done have been strategic to facilitate our business activities and give us a little bit of an operational and logistical edge over what the rest of the pack have had to deal with for a long time."

With a fluctuating workforce that can reach 400 employees during busy periods, Mr Pilmoor said Tams was aiming to establish a permanent local workforce.

“We have worked in this region for a long time, but the time has come to establish a permanent local workforce,” he said.

“Many of our employees are already residents of the north-west, and we plan to expand our local staff and supplier base in the coming months.

“We are well positioned for future growth and work opportunities.”
