Perth-based Surefire Resources is gearing up for 4000m of RC drilling at its Yidby gold project in WA’s Mid West region.
The program is expected to kick off as early as next week and will build on the legion of wide gold hits produced at the project since its acquisition in August 2020.
The campaign has multiple aims, including testing virgin surface geochemical anomalies, extending the strike length of the previous drilling at the new discovery zone and growing the main Yidby Road gold mineralisation to the north, northwest and southeast.
The work will also drill and case pre-collars for planned diamond drilling.
About a quarter of the program will be directed into a large and untested mobile metal ion, or MMI, anomaly located 100m northwest of the Yidby Road gold deposit. The drilling will be plunged west to east, covering the entire anomalous area.
Notably, the previous drilling of the anomalies in the discovery zones has provided wide downhole gold intersections, including 56m at 0.60 grams per tonne gold from a shallow 12m which contained a high-grade interval of 16m going 1.39 g/t gold.
The explorer now plans to step out from the new discovery zones with the drill rig, in search of strike extensions.
Holes will also be drilled for north, northwest and southeast extensions to the main Yidby Road gold mineralisation where previous drilling encountered an eye-catching 100m intercept at 0.53 grams per tonne gold from 96m downhole which also contained a interval of 13m going 2.17 g/t gold.
The project covers 114 square kilometres across the Yalgoo-Singleton greenstone belt and includes three prospects where gold mineralisation has been identified.
The gold is associated with historical workings at Surefire’s Delaney Well and Cashens Find prospects, whereas the gold at the new Yidby Road discovery is lying beneath 10-25m of largely barren, transported overburden that disguises the mineralisation.
A number of gold deposits surround the project including the 1.1-million-ounce Minjar gold project 65km to the northwest, the 1 million-ounce Kirklocka gold project 70km to the northeast, the sizeable 2.1 million-ounce Mount Gibson gold project 30km to the south and the 540,000 ounce Rothsay gold project 30km to the west.
The explorer also holds the Perenjori West project 80km to the west, where it has just lit up 15 high-priority gold and base metal targets through interpretation of geophysics and historical data.
Surefire plans to follow up with more geochemical surface surveys and possibly drilling.
