Perth-based Surefire Resources NL has tabled encouraging geochemical anomalies from its recent drilling at the Yidby Road gold project in WA’s Mid West, adding they represent a potential new gold discovery that could significantly expand the project’s footprint.
The anomalies were found in the discovery zone, up to 400m to the west of Surefire’s existing gold deposit at Yidby Road.
Drilling has revealed anomalous intersects of wide quartz zones greater than 30m, and unexpected quartzose felsic porphyry 90m wide and rich in sulphides.
Last month, Surefire announced the initial drilling of the MMI gold anomalies at Yidby had returned wide gold drilling intersections.
Yidby Road is on the Great Northern Highway, about 40km south-west of the historic goldrush settlement of Paynes Find in prime gold country.
The project covers 114 square kilometres across the Yalgoo-Singleton greenstone belt and includes three prospects where gold mineralisation has been identified.
It is also surrounded by four significant gold deposits: the 1.1-million-ounce Minjar project, about 65km to the north-west, the 1-million-oz Kirkalocka project, 70km to the north-east, the 2.1-million-oz Mount Gibson gold project, 30km to the south and the 0.45 million-oz Rothsay project to the east.
Surefire describes Yidby as a blind discovery hidden beneath about 20 vertical metres of barren transported overburden.
The initial drilling of the gold anomalies at Yidby returned wide gold drilling intersections displayed gold mineralisation in north-south trending felsic quartz porphyries and foliated quartz zones.
Historical drilling in the area predominantly has been shallow air core drilling with only the occasional targeted RC drillhole.
The company says more thorough testing at Yidby using RC drilling fence-lines has resulted in the intersection of wide gold mineralised zones.
Last month Surefire reported up to 83m wide zone of gold mineralisation at Yidby Road, with massive quartz-sulphide veining and felsic porphyry.
Assay results from five of 18 holes drilled included 44m at 2.77 gram per tonne gold from 149m, including 3m going 26.47 g/t gold and from 150m, including 5m grading 6.27 g/t Au from 177m.
Surefire, that acquired Yidby Road in 2020, also has vanadium, iron-ore and lead-silver projects in its portfolio.
